The performance was stirring – delivered with the passion and confidence I’ve come to know from “xero” over the years. Members remarked immediately after and through later conversations about how the theme caused them to reflect on the opportunity we have collectively to transform our community. We look forward to another opportunity to work with “xero” and would encourage others to consider this unique and powerful method to inspire any audience.

Chancelier "xero" Skidmore's poem, a tribute to sexual and reproductive health with a focus on Black men's involvement in Louisiana for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, has made a profound impact on the community. Skidmore's verses break down stigma and shame, emphasizing the interconnected nature of these issues and the need for systemic change. Through his powerful storytelling, he has sparked essential conversations and elevated the voices of marginalized communities. Skidmore's work is a testament to the transformative power of art in advocating for sexual and reproductive health.

WORKSHOPS

The Skidmore Method

KEYNOTES is a 12-week public speaking workshop series for anyone interested in the mastery of oral presentation. If you dream of someday giving a Ted Talk, becoming a motivational speaker, hosting a podcast, delivering powerful theatrical monologues, doing voice-over work, or killin’ it at the local spoken word open mic, this program is for you. This engaging and supportive workshop series will build on whatever you bring into the room and help you acquire the keys to where you want to be. Dates of the next series TBA

The Skidmore Method is my personal approach to the writing and performing of spoken word poetry. Over the years, I’ve developed a winning strategy for creating authentic moments on stage through the art form of performance poetry. I’ve employed my approach to help students in the third grade, as well as students who could be their grandparents. My workshops are flexible, accessible, engaging, fun, and rewarding. Dates of next series TBA

“I’ll Woody Guthrie this language to your students

Show them that this land is not just your land

Show them the difference between vigilance and vigilante

Cause an unrest that will wallpaper the hallways with exceptions to rules”
